Literature Text

I'm helping myself to your voice from my pen
like the paper you nurture and scribble you mend
when there's something to say and yet no way to talk
leaving you to draw keys to a mouth that's a lock

I tuned into you like the end of a song
I was hooked for the price of a second upon
the reflection of you in observance of me
and whether you happen to see what I see

I've been to the zoo you've compiled and petted
the creatures anointed for zoohood and yet it
unnerves me to witness your own self-containment
long after you've offered me your entertainment

Like Emily Dickenson you're under wraps
Will an effort pry open a window perhaps?
I've asked many questions and kept many more
to myself, dare I ask you to open the door?

Eccentric you are yet it's all in your room
where the art and the animals dutifully loom
in the peace of your aura where none would assume
I'm at war with the muted defence of your womb
Inspired by Laura from the Tennesee Williams play of the same name, and one other person
